So why did Jesus die? Why was He killed? What Was The Purpose?

Apparently, I thought that at least every Christian or religion simply believe and know that Jesus Christ died for our sins, nothing less and nothing more! However, as I meet different people whether on Facebook or even elsewhere, I am overwhelmed by a good number of people (both Christians and non-believers) who don’t think Jesus died because of our sins but because of the shift in thinking and knowledge He brought (call it a philosophy or paradigm shift) that was not received or was not welcomed.
But really? You mean Jesus was simply a teacher like Calvin, Martin Luther King or Junior, Lewis or any other (they were not just philosophers too), or Socrates who was simply persecuted and nailed on cross because He simply had a different philosophy from what we believed in? Probably yes (after all he was indeed preaching things contrary to our beliefs, desires, and interests; he was partly a philosopher indeed) but that is not the reason; it is the process- the description of HOW (in science, we would say ‘pathophysiology’) He died and NOT the reason WHY or cause (in disease science, we would say ‘etiology’) of His death.
But I know you are not convinced and I like it for I should not convince until I start pulling out the real verse or verses that give us the Real Reason for His death.
“He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:3-5).

So what is the prophet saying? The prophet is clearly saying that Jesus was despised and looked a
t as a despicable man, loser, poor, mad, and all sorts of humiliations, suffering and experiencing pain as any human would or does, and NOT because God was having grudge against Him but because of our transgressions. In Isaiah’s (or God’s) words; “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed”

Anymore bargaining? We are sinners and we deserved or deserve our rewards; death. To escape death and live, we must pay the price, and yes, Christ paid it; “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6). And yesterday we humbly agreed that “His Wounds Not Necessarily Healed Our Body Diseases (though that too can be) but Absolutely Healed Us of Spiritual disease and Death-SIN”
But you can still say Isaiah is an Old Testament book (after all some people think of OT less or more of God’s word or at least as word not applicable to our today’s modern era-another mistake we will address next time) and so let’s look into the New Testament and see. Look into 1 Peter 2:24; ““He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24). “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18).
And yes, Peter is a New Testament apostle and he has the same stand; our sins killed him. And these are not ONLY the uprisings, hatred, divisionism and persecution we threw at Him in 21st century as He preached against our interests, but our life time sins from our forefather Adam and Eve in Genesis.
What is the point? Jesus Christ came from heaven, forsook his glorious power and majesty and came on earth, lived among us, was hated, discriminated, and finally nailed on the cross, NOT because of the thinking shift or modern philosophy He brought and people didn’t want it (though that indeed happened), but BECAUSE of our sins. And it is His death that heals us of the sinful nature in us and consequent results of such a life-Death.
That is why we say, we have life in Jesus for He paid up the death penalty that we were to pay for our sins and now we stand with our heads up and shout, glory glory glory to the Lamb of God who washes our sins and death away.
