New Year 2014 Message: Finding Life In Dry Bones: Is it Possible?
Life in Dry Bones:
He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” (Ezekiel 37:2-6)
I am the guy that usually quotes that “Our God would still be God even without doing any single miracle”. However, I also know, this would probably be true with Him alone and not us. The Bible clearly says that Jesus and or God did or does miracles to show He is God. While He is still God even without a miracle, we need to see that, to know that, and so He does miracles. Miracles don’t make Him God; they show that He is actually God, the Lord Almighty. And Ezekiel chapter 37 shows He is God.

Life in Dry Bones: Is this Possible?
Ezekiel is one of those who were taken Captive when Judah was invaded by Chaldeans (call it Babylon). His name (which many say means God strengthens or He will strengthen me) and his book are placed well after Jeremiah who actually had prophesied before and about this captivity.
Ezekiel prophesying to his people during captivity indeed needed God’s strength and inspiration to be able to proclaim peace and restoration when what was on ground was nothing like that but captivity!
READ THIS TOO: Should I denounce God and follow ways of evil people?
In this chapter, God shows Ezekiel that He can cause life, peace, and happiness when there was no hope. God can make us find love when there was hate, success where there was failure, righteousness where there was sinning, and yes, life where there was nothing but dry bones. After making an army stand up (an army that actually had been dry bones), God interprets the miracle for Ezekiel, for people of Israel;
“Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.“
Yes, God recognizes your situation. He knows very well how your last year had been. He understands how painful it was and, yes, He knows well what your longing is. But besides providing for all your life needs, He even wants you to have life, life in Him. Judah and all Israelites would always be taken captives for being disloyal to God, but here God is giving them hope. Listen to him;
“I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”
Indeed we are dead. We are dead in sins, in anger and lack. Our lives are living hell and so much worries and anxieties have characterized our year. But do you know that the Lord can fix all that is broken? Can there be life in dry bones? I am saying that, yes, He can fix all that is broken, including your job, marriage, relationships, health, and most importantly, your relationship with God. There can be life in dry bones.
And this promise, listen to this, this promise should not be based on what you are seeing around (all you are seeing now could be just bones, dry bones and hopeless dreams) but on God, for He has spoken! Congratulations! The Lord has spoken and He wants to bless you in this new year and so He just wants you to trust Him on His word and entrust the new Year of 2014 with Him.
Life in Dry Bones: Faith is equal to total self depravity and total dependence on God!
What am I saying today my dear friend? How Could God say, “Don’t be afraid! Stand still and you will see the Lord save you today” yet People were then surrounded by mountains on both sides, red sea in front and Pharaoh behind? How could He say to Abraham, “You will be the father of nations”, yet he was too old to have a child? And here is the big surprise; when he finally got Isaac, the promised child, he was asked to sacrifice the child? Can you imagine that?
Was God out of His mind to tell Mary, “You will become pregnant and give birth to a son” yet the lady was virgin? Was Jesus really reasoning when He instructed Peter, “Put your nets in the water to catch some fish”, yet Peter had spent a night in the same waters? Was Jesus insane when he uttered, “You give them something to eat”, yet more than 5,000 people were hungry with only 5 breads and 2 fish available?
My dear, It looks insane and out of order to promise you prosperity in this 2014 with the life-threatening conditions you are living in, to promise you peace when surrounded by war and violent people, promise you safety when all you see around is crime, to promise you love when all you see is hate, or promise you heaven when evil is in and around you!
READ THIS TOO: Life isn’t about you, but God!
But that is not so hard with God. Seriously, the new Year is not about you (it shouldn’t be); it’s about God. And God will have His way no matter what. And so all we need to do is to fall into His plan and see and experience the marvelous works from His hands.
Yes, what you feel now is what others felt When God uttered or announced the above hope to them. But things happened, not as they wished or saw possible, but as God wished and willed. There can be life in dry bones.
Life in Dry Bones: Conclusion
I really don’t know how God will save you out of that prison, poverty, alcoholism, sickness, wars, hatred, sin, and other life chains that you could be in, but I believe God is ready to make the new and better you this new year. He wants to save you and express His love in your life.
Aftercall, Many expected us to die by now but WE SURVIVED, didn’t we! Isn’t that a great miracle too? Where there is life, there is still hope. So, talk to Him about your perplexing issues and He will rescue you at His time. Please, trust him and He will create life in your dry bones in this 2014.
God bless you
