You are not what say you are, you are what you say and think about yourself.

I remember as if it was just yesterday when everyone told me that i was going nowhere. I remember my friends explaining to me how some kind of lives and jobs were meant for others but not me. But that was not me. What they saw in me was different from what i knew about myself. And just yesterday in college, everyone saw me as a fallen angel, i was bad, a sinner, a losing giant, but deep within me i was seeing growth and some kind of change. It was bitter according to them, but it was better according to me. You see, even your wife can misunderstand you. There are things that she can believe that you are yet you are not, you are what you think and say about yourself.

People will take you as they feel in themselves. They may say you are not going to make it, you will fail, that woman will not love you, eh that job cannot be yours, that business is not easy for people like you, but what matters is what you say about yourself. Someone wrote and said, “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can’t, you are right”. You are determinant of your potential. Someone can say, ” you are selfish and bad” and yet you believe you are not, that is it: you are not.

Yesterday, i was telling people how Muhawe Edson is seriously contesting on the Mp Bufumbira south post and they were like, ‘ but he is just joking, can he make any progress?’. But now the question is not what we think about Edson, it is what he thinks about himself that matters. Aah i embarked on people who tell us bad things only, no, there are those who flatter us for their reasons too. I remember i told you a story of a man who died taking too much waragi because the friends were cheering, ‘ aah yes you can do it. You are a man, drink it. Yeah, you are about to make it, keep it up’. The man never listened to his inner voice of i cannot do it and he died drinking.

So what is the point today? The point is clear; people can say good things that are not in you or even necessary just to flatter you as a means to their end, do not believe them. Also, people can say a lot of bad things about you, but that does not matter too. What matters is what you speak and believe about yourself. In the article, who we are, we discovered that we are one with God and thus what you speak about yourself should reflect exactly what God speaks about you. Our assignment is to find that which God speaks about us and speak about it ourselves, that is what we truly are. However, in the article the 3 means of understanding ourselves, we agreed that people and trust worthy friends and even enemies can be sources of a lot of things that we do not know about ourselves. Thus this lesson of today should not kill the virtue of listening to others too.

You may think it is confusing but it is not. When people talk about you, you just examine yourself and your conclusion is what matters. Thus what you end up believing and talking about yourself is what matters. God bless you.
