Do not expect happiness at the end of the road, find some happiness along the way too. That is true living
You see, we grow with dreams, dreams which we think would make us complete if got fulfilled. When we are young, the only limiting factor seems to age only, otherwise we hope to get whatever we wish to have when we grow up. I have, no I mean i had dreams, and you also had yours. Somebody said dreams do not change, but i think they do.
So most of us when we grow, we join schools, the only line that the society has taught us that we can fulfill our lives through it. We chase education hoping to find jobs (not to do business) and get salary good enough to help us marry the dreamed kind of women, the cars, the houses, the foods and clothes, the care of our families, and rarely the dreams of donating to the poor and helping the church grow. However, even when we finish up our degrees and masters, there comes another challenge of looking for employment. Truly, some of us take decades to get their first job and when they do, they are relieved to think that it is over. Dreams could be getting closer.
Surprisingly, our salaries are not, I mean, they are never enough. They, along with other work-related challenges of nagging bosses, uncooperative workmates, heavy work or unhealthy jobs, come when we have so many bills to settle. Dreams of having a car, a good house, a wife of your dream and the rest still look to be unreachable. What happens is that we sulk, we get mad at life. We finally get convinced that besides life being unfair; it can as well be cruel. Satisfaction! that is a tale we never get.
At times, the wisest of us find other means, other than their salaries, to achieve their dreams. They resort to murdering, politics they never enjoyed from their childhood, stealing, illuninati theories, businesses, and all sorts of earning. At times they succeed and marry their dream cars, dream women, dream houses and life and at other times, they do not. Then horribly, depression and pain sets in and the source this time, unfortunately, is from the things they achieved. The wife you married opens up fire on you, the cars you bought bring you the costs you cannot handle, the houses we built start haunting us with dreams of blood, knives and dying babies, the money we acquired sets us up for assassinations and hatred, and oh the spicy foods we order from the super market bring us pressures and diabetes. And in the twinkling of an eye, by the time we are supposed to be enjoying our dreams, we are on death bed. Some in hospitals begging for volunteers to donate kidneys, some in prisons over the crimes we made as we struggled for our dreams, and the rest mental sickness and rotting conscience over our sins. And still the questions pops up, what were my dreams? Why am I not happy yet?
Painfully, that is how many end the journey; still wondering if satisfaction with life ever exists. And so as I sit and meditate on this shit and mess, i am again inclined to think of what we miss: Enjoyment along the way.
It is not the dreams, the end of journey, the marriage, the money and cars that will bring us satisfaction, it is the joy, the fun, the love, the outings and moves that we enjoy along the way every day, every moment. And while so many of us may not necessarily have those quiet moments under the church roofs, we still need them at least under the tree. Yes, we can have the riches and all the life supports we dreamed of, but our happiness and satisfaction is still internal, none of the things we have can bring us satisfaction. But this is easy and I have thought about it: It is only in our creator that we can find satisfaction. We were meant for eternity (this is easy to know whether you are a Christian or not). We do not like to die simply because it is violation of which we truly are, meant never to die. And so external things, including women, money and property, positions and fame cannot satisfy us, we shall have the same regrets on our deathbeds as a poor pygmies or man who never lived under his roof. But if we find God (I mean, listening to the eternal voice in us for i know some do not want to believe in God), we will find answers to our thirst and hunger.
Do not be deceived; dreams have nothing to do with your satisfaction. They can simply give us direction as we move along the way of fun and enjoyment. And whether we achieve them or not, we shall be satisfied that we enjoyed it all along the way. I am having similar struggles. Great day.
