Do you act or react?
By Amulen Winfred
Acting is dealing with a situation and reacting is what you do, and think in relation to what has happened.
Today let’s talk about anger and tempers.
We are all capable of both only some of us manage the two better than others.
How can we deal with this?
First is by realizing you got poor anger and temper management in your life. How you know that is by meditating upon the times you disagreed with your wife, husband, friends, workmates, relatives, family and if you regret how you reacted later.
You see that’s one of the characteristics of anger; REGRET.
After realizing you have anger problems, seek out how to deal with it. Yes, you need a solution but first understand the problem deeply by asking;
What does anger do?
What does the bible say about anger?
What does literature say about anger?
Well, anger for one can break up good relationships, family and friends. In the bible, Ecclesiastes 7:9 says, “Don’t become angry quickly because getting angry is foolish”.
In proverbs 12:18, God says, “Careless words stab like a sword but wise words bring healing”.
James 1:19-21 says, “My dear brothers and sisters, always be willing to listen and slow to speak. Do not become angry easily, because anger will not let you live the right kind of life God wants. So put out of your life every evil thing and every kind of wrong. Then in gentleness accept his teaching which is planted in your hearts which can SAVE YOU.
Mark the words ‘SAVE YOU’. When we manage anger and learn to calm down, we are not only helping the other person, but actually saving ourselves. Those are just a few of many Bible verses that address anger.
In the book, Apples of Gold, Jo Petty cites, “A soft answer turns away wrath and is the best system of self DEFENSE. People who fly into rage always make a bad landing. The longer you keep your temper, the more it will improve. Be wise for wise men are not always silent but know when to be. It’s better to keep your mouth shut and THOUGHT a fool than it is to open it and PROVE it”.
The best victory is to conquer self.
Knowing that much about anger makes you able to plan how to manage it; here are some of the ways you could deal with your anger;
Talk to someone and get counseling, use diversion of anger methods like; take a walk and allow to cool off, listen to your favorite music or watch a movie, go swimming if u can.
Don’t drive when in extreme anger.
Be silent for awhile.
For wives, engage in house chores.
After you are sure you’ve cooled off, talk about it and let it go. For husband and wife try not to let the sun rise on your problems, discuss them (it is what Bible teaches us)
Above all, pray to God about your anger problems.
Read about how to manage.
Join support groups that will assist you and help another.
God bless you.
