NDA Approves COVIDEX

Update: NDA has approved COVIDEX for supportive treatment of viral infections!

Uganda’s NDA has approved COVIDEX for supplementary use in the management of viral infections. This follows a long discussion and conflict over a herb that had seen the market without approval.

Few days ago, we wrote about how Ugandans were rushing to use COVIDEX, a natural herb manufactured by a Ugandan scientist, Ogwang, to treat COVID-19 even though the herb wasn’t yet approved by Uganda’s NDA. Today, we want to let you know that NDA has approved the herb.

NDA has approved COVIDEX

In a statement released today, NDA claims to have reviewed available safety and effective literature about the herb and visited manufacturing premises to ascertain good practices. NDA clarifies that the drug should be used as a supportive treatment in management of viral infections, but not as a cure for COVID-19. Of course, COVID-19 is one of the viral infections. In other words, COVIDEX is now a supportive or supplementary treatment option in management of COVID-19.

Earlier, NDA and Mbarara University had come hard on the professor behind the remedy. Whatever this is or wherever it is going, we will get to know. Meanwhile, below is NDA’s official press release document:
