Business/Innovation Details
Description: ShareLand Uganda is both an online and offline platform that connects farmers to landowners with unused land, thereby facilitating landowner-farmer partnerships for sustainable commercial and subsistence farming. The farmer utilizes the given land and only agrees to share the harvest with the landowner per their agreed terms.
The problem: In Uganda, 65% of the available agriculture land is not utilized. According to FAO (2020), if Uganda could fully utilize her land, we could feed more than 200 million people every year. Sadly, with just 46 million people, hunger and poverty haunt people's lives. This is so in a country that boasts 78% reliance on agriculture. ShareLand is improving on land access and utilization and thus leading to improved eco-friendly agricultural production.
Business Model:
Shareland makes money through fees charged per connection or matching made. Both the farmer and landowner pay a small fee for having found each other through our efforts. ShareLand also plans to sell extention services like organic fertilizers, climate-resilient seeds, connection to financial services and markets.
