I really believe that by the time YOU embarked or thought of finding the best niche for your blog, you are seriously planning to influence the world on another level, the higher level.

You see, many writers will tell you that the only big REASON for blogging is money, but I will say a different thing; influencing the world and people. Each one of us, at least for bloggers wants to be heard, to see his thoughts and ideas get to people. And that is your intent; to make a difference with your writings! Fishbein puts ‘making money’ at the last in his 10 reasons!
The number one focus for my blogging is to create an impact; yes, to inspire and empower as many as I can. That is the whole reason I have blogged for more than 5 years at Miklah (formely, The Complete You Ministry) without monetizing anything and yet greatly sharing powerful content and free eBooks. To hear that someone read your book or a confession of inspiration from my writings is a payment it its own way!
But, oh no, don’t think I am saying that making money online is not a great option! Far, from that, it is. Actually, even when you help people, the automatic end is cash flow. But you see the primary goal is not money; money is an inevitable outcome for being influential and helpful to others.

Well, we are done with that!
Back to our point; selecting the niche for your blog!
But what is a niche?
WAIT: At only 210 SWAPafrica francs, I can design a basic website for you; see here
It is simply your area of service. Yes, a niche is your field, job, or specific area of service. Selecting a niche for your blog means deciding on which area or areas you can best serve the world or your audience. Can we say it is deciding on your blog’s topic? No, that is very narrow! But it is something like that; deciding on the aspect of life you wanna write about!
While many bloggers insist and explain the benefits of being specific with your niche and always having one particular niche for a particular blog and a particular set of clients or audience, more others, including me strongly believe you can run more than one niche and on one blog, but under one condition!
What condition!
Yes, on the condition that your two or more niches can easily be connected to still fall under a specific field for a specific audience. For example, you may be in love with fashion but also with sports. In this case, you can have a blog that entails fashion designs for sportsmen or women or both.
Easy, isn’t it? Yes, it is. You can be interested in nursing but also parenting. In this case, your blog can be about parenting for nurses.
Do you see the point?
For example, I have more than four niches at Miklah, but they all fit so well in just one purpose and mission; completeness in all life aspects. Miklah’s goal is inspiration and empowerment; to enable you be what you were meant to be. In this endeavor, we appeal to your spirit, your health, your entrepreneurial self and relationships! The truth is this is too broad! It is because we have business initiatives in most of the above aspects, forcing us to write about them. In other words, while the blog combines all, they are separate business-wise. And, indeed, each has its own website! If you surely wanna be good at blogging, then a more narrower niche could serve you better! Besides, you can only get broader as you grow; The Economist writes about almost almost everything!
In case it is not easy to combine your niches, then I am happy to sideline with all other bloggers in the world and tell you that choosing one specific niche that you feel sure about is more helpful than indulging in many niches that are tiresome to handle, confuse you about your audience and also confuse your clients in determining your area of specialty, call it branding. Agrawal of ShoutMeLoud says, if you surely intend to make money blogging, then be as specific as possible with your niche!
Best take: Choosing a specific niche is your way!
But wait, how do you choose your BEST niche?
A lot of writers shall complicate your life by suggesting complicated tools (like Google keyword planner) to plan key words for you, tell you the world trends or most searched words on Google and the like, but I am sorry to say that that is all BULLSHIT!
Why?
Because the tool has little, if not nothing, to do with your success online! Yes, the tool may show you the highly trending niches, the best key words that have been searched about and the expected number of clients out there, but it is entirely your passion and hard work in putting together marketable content that counts. Besides, you wanna be unique and controversial, don’t you?
In no way does the above dispute the values of keyword planning, SEO, and other blogging tips to generate traffic, but nothing shall produce your content; it is your passion and hard work that will!
Actually, some wise authors have cited that having a niche that is freaking common and has pretty good number of clients also shows there is too much competition and thus the principle of ‘survival for the fittest’ applies.
But the above is just a good to know thing!
For God’s sake, one may say, I would rather take up a niche that has many possible clients and audience and competition than an insane niche that is remote and none wants to know about it. On the other hand, another one may comment, even if my article is the only one existing on a topic in the whole world, so be it! Where do you belong? Anyway, since I am not expert at S.E.O (Search Engine Optimization), I will leave this discussion now!
The most prominent broad niches: Health, Wealth, Relationships!
In his book, the circle of profit, Anik Singal highlights the top 3 niches in the world; health (physical, spiritual, and emotional), wealth (business, investment and the like), and then relationships (marriage, dating, parenting and many more).
Actually, there are thousands many more niches that still have potential market and audience. They include; real estates, pets (surely, not in Uganda!), finding jobs, mental and psychological counseling, technology (games, applications, software and much more). Recently, when I was interested in buying a car, I desperately wished there was a blog about cars here in Uganda!
Choose your niche: The 3 Strategies!

Personally, I believe that YOU can easily choose your niche without hustling through these statistics and tools by just considering three ASPECTS:
- Your HOBBY or passion
This should be your number one factor. Yes, it is possible that maybe your hobby or the things you have passion for actually don’t have very huge market or audience but I know there are days along the way when nothing else shall be working and your strength to move on shall only be your passion. Therefore, it is important to first consider your passion.
Some niches, for example, sports, cooking, parenting, children, playing, gambling (I personally don’t like gambling and I can’t choose it for someone), music and movie industry, designing and modeling, teaching or coaching, agriculture or farming, businesses (there are thousands of niches under here), selling, socializing, pets, reading, singing, and so much more are just hobbies. Surely, if you are passionate about country music, foot ball, singing or church choir, praying or playing, or anything, just dedicate a whole site to it!
Anything of the above hobbies can be your online business or your area of specialty in which you can help and influence others. With more than 500 articles and about 20 eBooks that don’t fetch me money, I do not think I have anything else that pushes me to write other than passion.
Writing and answering questions in relation to Christianity, bible, Christian dating, love and relationships and sacred entrepreneurship has always been my passion since I was young. And whether I get money or not, I keep writing and sharing. Yes, my satisfaction is to see a number of people benefiting from my inspiration. Money is a second thought!
So please, look into yourself.
What is your hobby? What are you passionate about? What is that one thing you feel you can help others with whether they pay or not? Every one of us has those things that move him, find yours and list it down now.
Now, let us move to your next consideration!
Action: Get your pen and notebook and answer this question; what are your hobbies? What are you passionate about? Make your LIST now and now please.
- Your PROFESSION (or What you studied!)
Yes, what did you study at school? You can launch a blog covering the same field. You could be a nurse, a midwife, a mechanic, a business man of any kind, a sales man, a cook or chef, a coach, teacher, a driver, a broker, an accountant, a doctor, a lawyer, a consultant, a counselor, a Laboratory technician, a secretary, a receptionist or a veterinary doctor.
Whatever your profession is, it can be your niche and online business. There are thousands of blogs about consultancy, cooking, mechanics and engineering, nursing, and all sorts of professions and businesses. Apparently, we don’t have powerful nursing blogs in Uganda. Also, I have realized that many educated ones cannot write anything about their field! I don’t get it! I hear people throwing their degrees and titles (professor, doctor, fellow and more) at us but i rarely see any writings from these titles; we must be dense!
NB: Remember, you don’t have to be a professional to succeed in a certain niche online. Actually, some writers emphasize that over qualifying in a niche may be an impediment if not taken care of with care.
All you need to know is how to read and write and the rest shall take care of themselves. This world is full of resources and opportunities and everybody who is eager to make life can really learn. You can perfect your content through research and studying more online!
So look into yourself; what is your profession? What is your current job? I mean, what did you study at school? Design a blog and start writing deeply about what you do and help others like you!
Action: What is your work? Or what did you study at school? Write it down!
- The PROBLEM (S) around you or in your community.
This is your third effective angle from which you can decide on your niche. Yes, we are motivated by what we face. Our miseries, motivational speakers say, can become our ministries. And I guess that is pretty true!
There are many challenges in our society that can inspire your writings: Discrimination, violence, rape and defilement, religion-ism, ignorance and social injustice, poverty, inadequate access to basics of life like water, electricity, housing and clean oxygen, coronavirus too or pandemics, lol!
There are thousands of blogs out there talking about how to deal with domestic violence, how to overcome post traumatic stress disorder for those who were raped, defiled or unfairly treated and, believe me, all these niches have their special audience. So many authors shared techniques of securing clean water, oxygen or even keeping our environment free from pollution. All these are blogs!
For Uganda, our challenges include slums, violence, poor education, insecurity (can’t someone make a blog about security? how to live safely and securely in Kampala!), orphanage, mental illness and stigma, sex workers, relationships, fake pastors and churches, hostel life, government workers and retirement, teachers, students and more. Take examples: a blog about how to pass PLE exams, how to teach mathematics to primary pupils. How to pass sciences in high school! And more.
Make your research and find out which problem is affecting many people and provide your remedies and ideas to the world either for free or for money. A lot of people have money, I mean enough money and won’t hesitate paying you as long as you share important information.
In my view, the best niche should generally be having some good number of prospective clients (problem solving; above 1 million clients), friendly and of interest to you too (passion), can easily be digitized and its products sold off digitally, solves real people’s problems, and is long lasting (we shall have enough time to discuss more details in relation to these qualities).

Starting a blog on a serious note requires you to have a clear niche and goal and your specific audience. Some people may enter blogging for business reasons only (to make money). Others may do so to primarily impact the world. Others may do it for casual sharing of moments and life experiences with friends and families. Whatever your goal is, considering your passion or hobbies, what you do or studied and then the exact number of people who are in need of your information can really enable you choose the best niche on the planet!
Take home: Deciding about the best niche for you should not be a hard game of thinking and rethinking; simply consider your passions (hobbies), your profession, and the problems that surround you (or your personal life experience).
Yes, that is all
