DAWN Mother-Baby Care Midwives Initiative
Healthy mother, healthy baby, happy home
Business/Innovation Details
Description:
Dawn Mother Baby Care Initiative delivers community-based midwifery services that leverage mobile technology to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Uganda. We provide prenatal and postnatal care, breastfeeding support and breastmilk expression awareness, family planning counseling, educational workshops, and Doula services, focusing on underserved mothers in rural areas. By leveraging mobile technology for health tracking and telehealth consultations, we ensure that even mothers in remote areas receive timely care, improving maternal and infant outcomes.
We use a mobile platform that enables real-time health tracking and telehealth consultations for mothers, ensuring access to care even when physical visits are not feasible. This unique combination of personalized care and digital tools bridges the healthcare gap for geographically and economically isolated mothers.
The problem:
Clients of Dawn Mother Baby Care Initiative need the services for several reasons, including:
- Lack of access to quality care among expectant mothers, new mothers and mothers in rural areas of Uganda due to financial constraints or understaffed facilities which is leading to high mortality rates of 336 deaths per 100,000 live births in Uganda according to World Health Organization (WHO).
- Lack of information about antenatal, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care and infant care among mothers.
- Mothers and newborns face complications during pregnancy or postpartum that require specialized monitoring and attention.
- New mothers find difficulties with breastfeeding and breastmilk expression.
- Cultural practices that respect their values and beliefs that lack in Healthcare can result into complications.
- Mothers experience postpartum depression or anxiety.
- Mother to pre-mature babies lack support and knowledge of preterm care post discharge.
Business Model:
Subscription plans that mothers choose so we take care of their pregnancy stages. Dawn also plans to extend other paid-for services, for example, emergency transport and sale of products and services that mothers need.
