Miklah Project is a plan to expand from being online & one small innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership space in kampala to a bigger entrepreneurship & leadership academy and resource center with a point of reference in each of Uganda’s 4 regions. Miklah applies SALEM principles a lot!
The four small regional hubs (central, east, west, & eastern Uganda) will be connected with the major center by a local exchange program that allows urban youth entrepreneurs to visit the rural communities & have the rural youth visit the urban, exchanging values, knolwedge, & skills. NB: Photos used are fictional, not the exact look of the structures.
Miklah project details: The 6 Elements
We have enabled the start of 75+ new SDGs-focused businesses, empowered 300+ small businesses in incorporating sustainability or SDGs in their business models, connected 5 green entrepreneurs to funding, and have offered a free online business directory, which allows Miklah Entrepreneurs to connect with the world whether they currently have a website or not! However, we still need sustainability for most of these startups, provide office space for startups, avail more tools and resources, and offer a holistic approach to socioeconomic transformation through skills-based education, entrepreneurship, mental and reproductive health, and leadership & civic engagement
Innovation & Entrepreneurship hub
Miklah Life will have the best innovation and entrepreneurship hub. Here, youth will have space, learn and apply design thinking to innovations and launch problem-solving (SDGs) businesses
Miklah Academy for Digital Skills Education
The center will have Miklah Academy center that focuses on empowering youth (both graduates and entrepreneurs) with employable digital skills, for both employment and business growth.
Sexual-reproductive & mental health services
The center will offer sexual-reproductive and mental health counselling and connect youth and adolescents to appropriate sexual-reproductive and mental health products & services.
Leadership & Civic Education center
Africa faces the issue of poor leadership and corruption and human freedom is under threat. At Citizenry, we hold events and conferences, offer the floor and tools to make youth design and decide on their leadership.
Miklah Shop & Library of Things (MSLOT)
Miklah Life offers a shop and library where people can buy environment friendly products (for example, our T-shirts) and services. As a library of things, people can borrow equipment and return them for others to use.
Miklah Recreational & Sports Center
Sports, Yoga, Meditation, and Physical exercies are crucial. Through these, we connect, empower our brains for greater innovations, check and enhance our body and mind health, and all things between.
Miklah Entrepreneurship & Leadership Exchange Program (MELEP)
Based on Salem System, an evidence-based (outdoor) transformational learning and education system championed by Kurt Hahn (read more here, here, and here), Miklah Entrepreneurship & Leadership Centers shall run an exchange program that allows for experience-based learning, leadership, and innovation among Miklah Green Entrepreneurs.
Basically, youth entrepreneurs from urban will be hosted at local Miklah Centers and community and rural ones get hosted at Urban Miklah Centers and community, allowing for exchange of knowledge, resources, skills, culture, and values.
Expected project duration
