In 2007, I was in senior four and I was studying Mathematics. We had a great mathematics teacher that we had nicknamed, ‘SURURU’. One day, we had an exam. There is this one number about vectors, I had done it perfectly well but I missed one step. However, as I looked out into the window towards the end of the paper, I remembered the calculation. Even though I had deliberately maneuvered around to the right answer, I now wanted to systematic and organized since I had remembered it all. What did I do? With all the excitement, I crossed the whole number, picked a new plain paper and for ready to put down my new matter. Unfortunately, no sooner had I started writing down my then advanced and organized answer than the bell went out. I heard the teacher shout, “Pens down, stand up”. There we go.
What is the point? My first answer was also right though the channels had not been mathematically perfect. If I had not crossed it, I would score 10 out of 15, but because I undermined that work even before putting down what I thought was the perfect one, I lost it all.
There are many people out here who are good at criticizing other people’s efforts without themselves doing better, that is double crime: First, you are negative and secondary, you are not doing something better. Let me be straight, if someone says that you do not have a good plan or business, then that same person should offer you a better option or refer you to where you can get it. If you point out that a certain business is fake and not working out, then point out a more efficient one. You see, we are tired of people who are good at pointing out problems only, be aware of such individuals.
Look at jobs, if you think your current job is terrible, first find a better one and then quit. If you think your wife is terrible, then first find a Better one and quit. If you think the current business opportunity I am showing you are fake, find a Better one. If you think the current government is horrible, then find another replacement. Always have something better in place before you disqualify what you currently have.
There are many times we rush to do divorce only to realize later that our wife or husband was the best. There are times we quit jobs and run away and after a few years of unemployment or stuck in a hazardous job, we regret our former jobs. There are times we cross the answers on our paper in an exam only to realize later that it was the real answer or were the real answers. That is our mistake. We criticize a lot yet we are having nothing better.
I learnt a lesson, I can never cross my answer in an exam before I put down the new one and prove that it is better. So whoever asks you to quit or tells that your business or job sacks, ask the same person, “What better option do you have for me?” If he cannot answer that question, that is Prophet Kinjekitire Ngwale, do not follow him.
