Thank God Again: SWAPafrica Gets Selected for Phase 1 Mini Grant With German’s Jump Start 21!

As always, the only individual or organization that can’t vote for SWAPafrica or support our cause is the one who doesn’t know about us or who simply doesn’t love our world or our people or, for that matter, our God! I am Kidding! Anyway, all jokes aside, here is the thing: SWAPafrica has successfully been selected for Phase 1 mini grant in Jump Start 21, a program interested in innovative young entrepreneurs across Sub-Saharan Africa.

What is Jump Start 21? According to their one page website, it is this: ‘Jump-Start 21 offers unrestricted funding to any seed or early-stage entrepreneur with a focus on achieving positive social or environmental impact in Sub-Saharan Africa’. The program, through a series of interviews and assessments of your ‘fit’, offers a small grant to promising start-ups in the first phase and offers the next opportunity to compete for 50k dollars or more equity funding after meeting some requirements as explained in their phase 2 documents.

So what happened with us, SWAPafrica?

We came across the opportunity in one of the Whatsapp groups on this planet, applied and waited. We were then selected for interviews that happened here in Uganda, Franziska & Isabelle, the two beautiful ‘German or not’ ladies made sure of that! Then, we were occasionally contacted for a series of interviews, online AI guided assessments and many more tests that I cannot remember till it all ended up in us being considered for the mini GRANT of phase 1!

The above comes in when, just few days ago, we won the Total Startupper Challenge of the year 2018/2019 where we came among the top 3 best startups among the hundreds in the country (see the video or read the article). Few days from then, SWAPafrica got selected among the topmost promising startups of Africa under Tony Elumelu entrepreneurship program. And now this one! Isn’t God so good? AND NOW WE ARE HAPPY. But what makes us happy?

For us at SWAPafrica, it has never been about money, but about the fact that people see validity in the solution we are offering. It is the only thing that moves me; that a group of entrepreneurship experts and enthusiasts like the Germans can sit, look into our SWAPafrica and say, well, here is a hell of a solution to the world’s challenges of inaccessible access to skills, services and goods simply due to lack of money.
