Africa Liberty Camp 2024: At the Source of the Nile, Come & Explore Business, Philosophy, & Economics of Life!

Africa Liberty Camp is a yearly event organized by Africa for Liberty and Economic Development – ALED, a libertarian and free market think tank in partnership with other organizations, such as Atlas Network, AFODI, Mtindo network, and others.

In these African liberty camps, concepts like governance and freedom, business and entrepreneurship, free markets, politics, and governments, and the overall economics of life are explored. Importantly, all of this is done with fun, openness, friendliness, and a lot of adventure. It is a place you would never wish to miss!

In this brief article, I will share my experience with these #LibertyCamps and introduce you to the Africa Liberty Camp 2024.

The Africa Liberty Camp 2024: What is it? Why it matters!

Africa Liberty Camp 2024, what to carry!

The Africa Liberty Camp 2024 will occur on the 13th to 16th of June 2024 at Nile Nest, a conducive and nature-surrounded cottage in Jinja, one of Uganda’s most beautiful and organized cities. ALED has organized this camp in partnership with the Action for Development Initiative – AFODI, Mtindo Network, Miklah Life, and the Initiative for African Trade and Prosperity (IATP).

In this 3-days event, participants will explore and share deeper insights and life-transforming philosophies of life guided by economics and entrepreneurship, philosophy and history, science and theology. Participants will cut through the noise to draw practical lessons for the everyday struggles of a Ugandan.

Importantly, it will all be fun, featuring a lot of activities, including boat cruising, book reading challenges, ‘battles of ideas’, movie night, campfire, entrepreneurship, and leadership discussions.

If you are a person who wants to explore your life goals and purpose, understand your self-interests, and figure out practical, moral, and yet economically viable means to achieve them, then this is your place.

If you are someone who values knowledge, insights, and reason beyond the daily misinformation from politicians, corrupt religious leaders, imperialists, and dehumanized capitalists, then this is your home.

The Africa Liberty Camp 2024 offers a free and safe space for learning, sharing, connecting, and growing alongside ambitious and open-minded individuals from all around the world.

Apply now and be part of this transformative experience.

The Africa Liberty Camp 2024: The background, my experience

I joined Libertarians in early 2022, around April. A social media friend, George Kanyihamba, had invited me to attend a one-day workshop about Students for Liberty, a students-focused organization that focuses on spreading libertarian ideas and principles to students across training institutions in the world. I attended the work, embraced the freedom to express and share amazing ideas, and made friends who care about nothing but thinking and doing!

The experience was good. I wrote about it all in this article.

Since then, I have never looked back! I have attended the 2022 Liberty Camp in Entebbe, the 2023 camp in the same city, and I am attending the 2024 Africa Liberty Camp in Jinja, Uganda. In addition to these major events, I have been part of several other occasions, including book review meet-ups, capitalism meet-ups, and other events.

We even participated in libertarian debates, with most African countries participating and the Ugandan team was among the top 3 winners. I have experienced a lot, all good since I joined the liberty network.

Africa Liberty Camp 2022: Liberty, Culture, and Prosperity

The 2022 Africa Liberty Camp, which was the 8th of such events, happened at Entebbe Flight Motel, an amazing hotel on the main Entebbe road in the center of Entebbe town. While it was not my first event with libertarians, it was my first ‘Africa Liberty Camp’ (ALC). The theme of the event was ‘Liberty, Culture, and Prosperity’.

In this 3-day event, I experienced it all. We explored concepts in governance and leadership, free markets and capitalism, entrepreneurship, and business. There was a reading challenge, involving a book called ‘The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey by Ken Schoolland, a professor in entrepreneurship and economics. Schoolland was present himself and he talked to us.

I had a selfie with the professor himself! Hallelujah!

We also had fun, including a music night and miming. It was all great.

Africa Liberty Camp 2023: The Amazing Campfire Chats!

The 2023 Africa Liberty Camp was the 9th of these events and it also happened in Entebbe town at Oslo Gardens, Entebbe. This was one of the amazing events. The theme of the camp was ‘inspiring freedom, innovation, and creativity’.

In the 3 days, we explored deeper insights into the economics of life, entrepreneurship, leadership, government and its relevance (or non-relevance), and other stuff. It was a true camp.

We had a campfire and chatted, a night dance, a book reading challenge and its winners, and a boat cruise. In this camp, I (or #MiklahLife) had a presentation on ‘design thinking in entrepreneurship’, and inspired the participants on how to get started with creating innovative solutions for our communities’ problems.

Importantly, #MiklahLife had officially sponsored two persons with albinism for this same camp. However, only one, an amazing lady called Betty had made it to the camp. It was a successful camp.

The Africa Liberty Camp 2024: At the source of the Nile

The 2024 Africa Liberty Camp is set to take place at Nile Nest in Jinja from June 13th to 16th. Over the course of three days and three nights, attendees will experience an enriching and dynamic program. A standout feature of this year’s camp is the impressive lineup of speakers who are sure to inspire and engage.

Africa Liberty Camp 2024

I, Vicent Nemvicx Nemeyimana (or #MiklahLife), am one of the speakers. I have prepared a presentation on ‘Embracing Sustainability without compromising economic growth’. In this, I will explore and share practical ways in which small businesses can embrace and incorporate a green economy and still stay on track with their economic projections.

Incorporating sustainability in small businesses is one of my specialties at Miklah Life and I have made and presented this work at many events, including at Uganda Pavilion during COP29, Dubai, UAE. As such, this is a presentation that is practical and transforming for most individual entrepreneurs and startups. You don’t want to miss out, do you?

Vicent Nemeyimana (nemvicx) will be there ALC2023

Other speakers include Odong Arthur (The Orator). Arthur is one of the best libertarians I have ever met. He is a free thinker, open to debates (he calls them ‘battles of ideas’), and entrepreneurial. He works at AFODI as an external relations officer. Another presenter is Elem Rodney, a free thinker and political scientist.

We also have Prof. Christopher Lingle, an economist, educationist, and entrepreneur from Universidad Fransisco Marroquin, a private and secular university in Guatemala.

Prof. Christopher Lingle

He has authored books on free markets, economic growth, and capitalism. In his book, ‘Singapore’s Authoritarian Capitalism: Asian Values, Free Market Illusions, and Political Dependency’, he argues that, while Singapore is a strong economy, its future cannot be guaranteed given the country’s prioritization of political authority rather than economic freedoms. I checked out Singapore’s economic position and, indeed, she doesn’t make it even in the top 20 economies in the world.

However, surprisingly, Singapore is ranked high among countries with good quality of life. Maybe true living and quality of life aren’t necessarily about how much money an economy has but other factors like access and distribution of those resources to everyone. What do you think?

We also have Li Zhao Schoolland on the speakers’ lineup. Li is an independent educationist, writer, and speaker. She is a wife to Ken Schoolland. Li is an amazing writer and speaker, with immense personal experience in the values she shares.

She will be here!

According to her writeups, she lived through the toughest communist regimes in China and knows firsthand what it means to be free (or not). She is famous for quotes like ‘freedom is not whatever you want to do’,

Wait! I have deeply explored this lady’s thoughts, experience, ideas, and writings, and I am interested in meeting her face to face. She is simply an inspiring person. Know her well in the videos below:

Li talks about her life growing up in communist China and the motivation for her freedom-fighting

We are excited to announce that #MiklahLife is an official partner of the 2024 Africa Liberty Camp. Our mission is to share these highlights, encourage your participation, and ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable experience. A lot has already been prepared, promising a memorable event for all.

We also have other exciting presenters like Doris Olela from Kenya. I met Doris during Africa Liberty Camp 2023. She is great. You should meet her.

Doris will be there!

There will be Mugabi John Socrates. As the name suggests, Mugabi is a philosopher. He is also humble and approachable, just like Socrates. I have met him on several occasions and he is an inspiring speaker, with a lot of experience and wisdom to share.

Mugabi Socrates will be there.

George Kanyihamba will also be there. Who is George? ALED has a better description:

“Having been inspired by the ideas of freedom and prosperity during his first AFRICA LIBERTY CAMP participation in 2019, George Justice Kanyihamba picked up the charisma and journeyed with Students For Liberty through which he is currently the #East_Africa_Regional_Cordinator for #ASFL. He is also the acting Branch Manager at Uganda Red Cross Society (#Kampala_East_Branch). His insights will be a great contribution to the forthcoming AFRICA LIBERTY CAMP 2024.”

George Kanyihamba will be there too.

Wait! Did I tell you about Denis Bua Oscar? This is a calm, humble, and inspiring leader. He is the founder and CEO of Mtindo Network, the guys who have been organizing these camps for years. I have met Denis many times, and he is one of the most inspiring, humble, and friendly people I have met. Denis will attend ALC2024 and make a presentation. You wouldn’t want to miss this guy:
