MY TAKE ON CURRENT SHOOTINGS BY POLICE AND ARMY:
I have been reading about the protests in South Africa, Ethiopia, Libya, here in Uganda and other African countries, believe me when i say, 85% or even more of African demonstrations and protests are not peaceful (let me be direct, they are violent) always involving looting, beating defenseless and innocent peace, abusive, and provoking. Also, i have been looking into the data reflecting the disciplined army in Africa. Even though countries like Kenya top the list of such disciplined force, Uganda army is also among the fairly disciplined army. Going deep into their indiscipline, of course many of them misbehave when it comes to money. The recent reports showed that Ugandan commanders sold some bullets and guns while in Somalia (source: untrusted). Considering these sins, they are more of economical but not killings, rape or torturing citizens, making a point of some discipline.
Considering the above paragraph, then it is logical to reason that something must have gone wrong for a ugandan army or police to shoot a person and kill him. If 85% of our demonstrations are not peaceful, what do you expect the government to do? To sit and give us a way. If you are a civilian and you are attacking a police man with stones, knives and trees, what makes you different from a rebel? What can inform the police man that if you get the gun, you will not shoot him? I know we like pointing fingers, but both the army and the police are people like us with fears, emotions and can feel pain and experience pain. Though with some special training to overcome such human limits, it is possible to be limited in their patience in some situations too.
Check Uganda, look at how we demonstrate, we are violent most of the times, affecting businesses and lives of innocent people. Have you ever been involved in mob justice? Have you ever read about it? Have you ever seen it? How do you think the mob justiced person feels? What if he could get hold of a gun? Should he spare a person? When we attack a police man or a updf guy, what makes us differ from those doing a mob justice? Usually, a group attacks a numbered police men and in violent manner minus calmly asking for explanations, that is mob justice on a police man.
So i understand our feelings: If your person has been shot, it is okay to feel bad and curse the police, but also the police man has a mother or friends waiting for his return. Yeah, i agree some mistakes are done (maybe legs could be shot instead of dead ends) but that is a gun, no eyes as the movie i last watched said. The best way to safe is to be calm, stop attacking police and armed men because you have unresolved complaints.
Personally, i do not think Ugandan army or police is that evil to just shoot at people involved in non threatening actions. So let us stop our emotional responses and wait on the government’s take, our duty is to remain safe by refraining all violent demonstrations and protests. Yeah, you like it, you like shouting it in the streets, you enjoy hitting women and grabbing some phones in such situations, but the day the bullet passes through your intestines, you will understand my point. I am done, start your cursing.
I am soon coming up with a human rights organisation along with my friends, but be careful, my focus is people, the defenseless people, the victimised women, the abused children, the mistreated tenants, workers and wives, the unemployed youth, the unfairly tried and jailed, but not the people starting fire and fights on the streets with police and defenseless shop girls. Good day!!!!
