Scary: There is something sinister about sin!

There is something sinister about sin, about evil, something that makes me shudder whenever I think about it. It is like we can’t break away from it! Actually, there is never a reason for sin; we just do it. Sin isn’t sweeter nor is it pleasurable. And yet, for reasons beyond us, we are inclined to it. Oh how wretched men are!

For example, you don’t need a good reason to cheat on your wife (#Jerome didn’t certainly need one). You don’t need any reason to steal. You even don’t need any reason to murder someone. How about jealousy, bad prayers for our neighbors, talking ill of others? We don’t need any reasons for such. We just do it because it is in us. We are evil itself!

Even if your wife was the most beautiful, in and out, and she loved you the best, you can possibly cheat on her. Even if your neighbor was nice to you and your children, you would probably pray for his death or failure. Even if your boss paid you enough and gave you long holidays, you would still steal from him. You can’t help it. You are just evil yourself. You don’t need any reason to do EVIL; you just have to be a human being!

Sin or evil isn’t pleasurable at all, and yet we embrace it. It pains, takes away your peace, threatens your future and the future of those you love. And yet we still do it. This is why C. S Lewis noted that ‘it isn’t the love for pleasure that pushes us into sin, but the lack of it’. Adam’s sin wasn’t the desire for more, but the sinister desire for less, for lack, for evil.

It is like we don’t have the capacity to notice good, later alone, enjoy it. We don’t do evil to find our way, but to lose it. We are simply a cursed generation, I mean, a cursed creation, one that can’t save itself no matter how much it tries. This is why we needed CHRIST. Oh Christ, our true salvation. Thanks for standing with us, with me in my sinful cursed life! Thanks for saving us from ourselves. Amen.
