Happy New Year 2023: Be More & Deeply Selfish 2023!

Be selfish in 2023, that is the Happy New Year 2023 message!
There is no such thing as unconditional or selfless love! I love my wife, right? But you must have noted the word ‘my’. When I do things for her, in the end, it surely isn’t about her, but me, for her, and all things I do for her come back to me, one way or the other.
Even if I were to offer a 20k note to a begging person on the streets of Kampala, it is for my selfish fulfillment. Every individual is seeking out his self-interests, even in the ‘selfless’ forms of care we know!

Selfishness and our seeking of self-interests are woven into us, into nature, and even into God! It is the basis of life; every living organism seeks out its interests. Sometimes, our self-interests are met in cooperation, competition, mutual sign-offs, and even conflicts and killing of one another.
In this sense, even God or Jesus didn’t offer anything to anyone! Okay, He does offer something, but certainly for himself. He dies for us because we are His! He is the one who gains! The head cares for the body simply because it is her body!
The Bible is clear that by letting go of his heavenly position and becoming human, Jesus purchased an even much bigger and greater position and glory. In the end, it wasn’t about any of us, but Himself!

Of course, one would argue, is there anything He wouldn’t have without dying for us? Or without having us? Nothing! But that isn’t the point. The point is whether he died for us or not, the end is in himself not any of us. Whether he created us or didn’t, it was for himself! This applies to all he does or doesn’t do for us; it is all about himself.
In the same way, ‘moral’ self-interest (or rational selfishness as Ayn Rand calls it) could be the highest moral standard of humankind. It is only those who have less love for themselves that can make errors, even moral errors! It seems God’s call is to selfishness. For those who love and sacrifice for God, the real motivation is self-interest, the idea that we shall live forever with Him! It is about us, ourselves!
Looking back, all my sins and errors happen when I love myself less. In this coming year of 2023, pray that you love yourself more. Make 2023 a year about yourself and your self-interests. Make these interests deeper and deeper that owning God is the only thing that can satisfy you!
