Business/Innovation Details

The Ebenezer Empowerment Foundation is a registered, not-for-profit Community Based Organization (CBO) founded in June 2016 and legally registered in January 2019. Its mission is to foster positive change and enhance the quality of life for vulnerable individuals and families in Uganda (specifically active in the Kigezi sub-region). The organization focuses on strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full academic, leadership, and socio-economic potential through continuous learning and targeted skills development.

THE PROBLEM:

The foundation addresses severe socio-economic challenges within the community, specifically focusing on the devastating effects of:

  • Teenage pregnancy and child abuse.

  • High rates of HIV/AIDS and systemic poverty.

  • High unemployment gaps among young generations who lack practical skills.

  • Lack of formal education access for vulnerable children due to extreme financial limitations.

The primary target beneficiaries facing these issues include teenage mothers, girls, vulnerable children, adolescents, single mothers, and unemployed youths

BUSINESS MODEL:

As a community-focused non-profit entity, the project utilizes a blend of direct empowerment infrastructure, donor funding, and collaborative resource-sharing to operate:

– Internal Project Infrastructure & Enterprise: The foundation runs an established, small-scale tailoring project. This serves as a direct operational anchor that can absorb 100% of the tailoring program’s beneficiaries, keeping production and potential craft-based revenue loop structures localized.

– Partnership & Apprenticeship Models: To minimize heavy overhead costs, other vocational tracks (such as hairdressing, mechanics, agriculture, knitting, and sewing) are conducted via apprenticeship collaborations directly within the local communities.

– External Funding & Grant Pipelines: The organization seeks direct capital injections, monetary support, and technical tools/equipment from philanthropic partners and grants to scale their scholarship and training capacities.
