Unemployment in Uganda is high, especially among the youth. To be exact, youth unemployment is between 65%(UBOS, 2016) and 83% (World Bank, 2013). This is very serious. Well, while it is so, it is important to note that it isn’t necessarily the unavailability of jobs that is the issue here, but a mixture of so many other factors.
A study by Makerere University School of Business indicated that shortage of employable skills is one of the hindrances to youth employment. Indeed, Uganda government (in the documents of Uganda Vision 2040, NDP II, and Population Status Report 2018) acknowledges that the education system has fallen short of skills, producing graduates that can’t be employed.
In other words, jobs are there but there are requirements to get them. What are these requirements? Do you have them?
